Uniquely designed and delivered 6 x 6 week courses for beginners.
Tuesdays 9.30 – 11.30 am at the Cause Arts Centre, Causeway Chippenham
Term 1: September 16th – October 21st 2025 – Still Life (drawing)
– Starting from the very beginning, you’ll gain confidence through learning to draw using classical techniques and traditional materials, including pencil, graphite, charcoal, chalk and ink.
Term 2: November 4th – December 9th 2025 – Objects (interiors)
– You’ll advance from drawing to painting during these sessions, learning how mark making represents larger objects. You’ll use limited palette painting to work from drawings made during onsite visits.
Term 3: January 6th – February 10th 2026 – Portraits (painting)
– Learn to draw the features and proportions of the face, and how colour is traditionally used to represent shadow and light on skin. You’ll finish by producing a self-portrait in a classic pose.
Term 4: February 24th – March 31st 2026. – Interiors (drawing)
– You’ll expand your experience of painting by exploring influential art movements, and applying their practices to a series of pieces, before producing a painting developed from an onsite visit.
Term 5: April 14th – May 19th 2026 – Landscape (painting)
– You’ll visit two different sites during the sessions, to produce drawings which you’ll develop into large-scale paintings. You’ll learn how to apply colour and mark-making to convey depth of field and light.
Term 6: June 2nd – July 7th 2026 – Still Life (mixed media, collage)
– You’ll revisit still life subjects in these sessions, using more advanced techniques, including collage and mixed media, to produce vibrant mixed media drawings.
Taught by local artist and designer Charlie who has over 25 years experience teaching art in a variety of settings from Further and Higher education colleges and universities.
Please note: courses begin with drawing, and include a talk about art movements and practitioners as part of your learning.
