A Chippenham based social enterprise, dedicated to offering high quality arts workshops and events in North Wiltshire.
We are a collective of professional arts practitioners with extensive experience in education, who believe that being creative has huge benefits for people and communities.
For some, our training will lead to a career in the performing or visual arts. For others, they may just discover how great being creative can be and make new friends.
Whatever your reason, we look forward to meeting you.
I have taken part in life drawing sessions, a landscape drawing weekend and a beginners portrait course at Rag and Bone Arts
It's always a pleasure to learn all things art with them in their beautiful premises at the Cause in Chippenham. Charlie is a great teacher and his relaxed way works for all the artists who attend his art sessions.
Just amazing art, even from the beginners.
If you want to start an art life, this is the place to go!
Improvisation slams - simply the best fun you can have without drinking!
It has literally changed my life. I am no longer afraid of giving presentations, talking in front of people or many of the things I used to worry about. I wish I'd discovered it sooner - I love it!
It's hard to put into words how grateful I feel for Rag and Bone.
It provides a place for young people to exchange ideas and explore their differing views of the world.
It's a place where my son feels accepted and has access to Laura's professionalism and expertise which would not otherwise have been available to him.
It has been a huge advantage and has benefitted him immensely. Not only benefiting him in his love & passion for drama/acting but also in acquiring the life skills in navigating the world around him.
Thank you Laura and her team!
I join in with the improvisation class on Monday nights and I love it.
They are a friendly, supportive, creative and amusing bunch, and Laura leads the sessions with an easy, affable manner, that keeps things ticking along.
There’s loads of variety from simple games to scenarios, and no pressure to perform. It’s different and delightful.
Why not give it a go?
Open to anyone.
I like the improvisation that leads to some amazing ideas. Creativity is an interactive process between those doing it, and those teaching/coordinating it (no 'learn these lines' top down instructions).
It also promotes teamwork. I like giving things a go from games, art and expression to ways of delivering rag and bone, writing own scripts and devising. Very encouraging.
I love the fact, as an adult that I can attend short courses (terms) for art classes, I didn't have the opportunity to study art at school, as I was encouraged to take more academic subjects. This allows me to enjoy and develop skills in a creative environment.
With regards to children, I love that this allows me to encourage my children to explore art in many forms and not just home arts and crafts and the limited exposure they have at school.
It gives them the opportunity to explore their creative nature, be inventive, have autonomy over their work as individuals as well as working in collaboration with other children listening and developing ideas and dialog, and most importantly its fun!!
I loved seeing my son's confidence grow. Seeing him smiling a lot more. Basically generally happier because he discovered he loves performing & made new friends outside of secondary school.
It's wonderful that he's discovered a passion for life.
I think it's also hugely beneficial R&B is always asking the children to explore their perspectives & feelings about things. It's been a great outlet for my son to realise he's not alone & prevent him from bottling up the pressures of secondary school life as well as the challenges of the teenage years.
I have always loved that the different ages get to work together.
This alone I believe develops excellent social skills, serves as a reminder that all opinions at any age are important & it's fine to be & think differently.
My boys wanted to join a local drama group where singing and dancing were not the main focus. I was pleased when we came for a trial to see how many boys were there as often they can be a small minority.
I have always felt I was incredibly lucky to have discovered R&B and it's excellent teachers. The groups are never so big that your child is just one of a number & it's affordable!
I thoroughly enjoyed the recent portrait sessions at Rag and Bone.
I have very little experience in portraiture but Charlie's carefully stepped activities have built skill and confidence, and the desire to take things further.
A great couple of hours in a purposeful and supportive class.
Adult drama sessions that we went to were so great.
Really fun and welcoming and so much laughter. Great way to meet new people and great exercises.
Also we have come to several Instant Wit shows and some for Chip Fringe Feb and they were really fab. I really enjoy the combination of participation and performance and the great community at both types of event.
Keep going Rag and Bone - we love you!
I joined the beginners Art Class in Sep.’24 and have really enjoyed the different modules. Charlie is a great artist and very constructive teacher, and the people in the group are welcoming and friendly. I enjoy learning new skills and learning to find my ‘style’ in this supportive environment.
Rag and Bone Arts is a fantastic asset to Chippenham!

My son has thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the 'designers' group.
Enabling him to grow his skill set, meet like minded people and have a positive impact on our local community.
I have really enjoyed walking around our town knowing that he is part of making it a brighter, better and more colourful place to live!
